A new fitness program called PiYo will begin at noon October 11th at the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center. PiYo classes are designed to give hardcore definition, intense calorie burn and all over strength – without weights, without jumps and without destroying your body.
“This is a high-intensity, low-impact workout that gives full-throttle cardio, strength and flexibility training all at once,” said Tina Dudic, senior recreation supervisor. “It helps build lean muscle mass as calories are burned.”
Dudic says several fitness instructors from the City of Rock Springs’ Parks & Recreation Department have been hard at work preparing for this new program, after attending an August training session in Idaho.
“I think this is an amazing program,” said Andrea Johnson, fitness instructor. “It is one of the most exciting fitness trends in the country right now. PiYo helps burn excess fat while sculpting and defining your body. It also helps minimize the aches and pains that can come from some high-impact workouts.”
Another instructor, Ashley Philo, stated that PiYo is great for all ages and body types. “It is different from standard Pilates and Yoga classes because you don’t have to hold long, intense poses or do dozens of repetitive movements.”
Dudic said the PiYo program has been added to the lineup of classes at the RSFRC, but none of the current classes have been cancelled. “Our Zumba, Corebar and RIP classes are always popular and we are excited to see PiYo join them. The program has gained popularity nationwide because the diversity of exercises appeals to many.
After Saturday’s PiYo kickoff session, classes will be held the following days/times:
Mondays at 6:00 pm – Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7:15 pm – Wednesdays & Fridays at 10:45 am
