Video: Commissioners hear from New York taxidermist who says a wind power project devalued his home

GREEN RIVER – The Sweetwater County Commissioners listened to both backers and opponents of wind power development during the Tuesday afternoon County Planning and Zoning hearing before voting to enact a language amendment in the zoning resolution governing wind energy collection systems. The public will have 45 days to comment.

Jimmy Salamone who spoke at the meeting stood out from the rest, partly because of the distance he traveled to speak to the commissioners and also for the personal nature of his story.

Salamone is a taxidermist who lives in Upstate New York, he said that a wind farm located within a mile of his home has made life unbearable due to near constant noise levels and shadow flickers from the turbines. Additionally Salamone said that wildlife has fled the area taking with them the hunters that are his primary customers.

Salamone said he is currently trying to sell his home but can’t get a fair price for it and most potential buyers walk away when they see the amount of disruption the neighboring wind farm creates.
