SWEETWATER COUNTY — After an intense rivalry matchup earlier in the week, the Green River and Rock Springs soccer teams now turn their focus to one of the toughest challenges on the schedule: a set of conference matchups against top-ranked Jackson.

Rock Springs will host Jackson on Thursday, with the girls match set for 3 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m. Green River will then travel to Jackson on Friday for another pair of conference contests, with the girls playing at 3 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m.

The matchups come at a pivotal early point in the season. Green River enters with momentum, as the Wolves remain unbeaten at 4-0 and ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, while the Lady Wolves sit at 3-1. Rock Springs, meanwhile, is 2-2 on both sides and looking to bounce back after a rivalry loss earlier in the week.

Both teams will be tested against a Jackson program that sits atop the Class 4A boys rankings and holds the No. 3 spot on the girls side in the latest coaches and media polls.

For the Green River boys, Friday’s matchup presents an opportunity to measure themselves against the top-ranked team in the state. The Wolves have shown strong offensive production early in the season but will face a significant step up in competition.

Rock Springs will get the first look at Jackson on Thursday, giving the Tigers a chance to regroup and protect their undefeated record on their home field against the No. 1 team.

On the girls side, both teams face a similarly difficult challenge.

Rock Springs hosts No. 3 Jackson on Thursday, while Green River travels to face the ranked team on Friday. The Lady Wolves have shown explosive scoring ability early in the season, while the Lady Tigers have also proven capable offensively but will need consistency against a high-level opponent.

With conference play underway, the games carry added importance beyond early-season momentum, offering both programs a chance to establish themselves against one of Wyoming’s top teams.
