WHEATLAND — Weather hasn’t been cooperating for firefighters trying to contain a blaze in Platte County this week.
The Britania Fire grew to 20,180 acres and moved south into very rugged country yesterday afternoon. Authorities say there are also numerous cabins in the area, and evacuation notices have been issued to several subdivisions in the region.
Because of the increasing complexity of the fire, the decision has been made to upgrade the fire to a Type 2 incident.
Rocky Mountain Team Black was ordered and has been in briefings this morning.
Currently the fire is just 23% contained and is staffed with 259 personnel.
High winds and “red flag” conditions are forecasted in the fire area for at least the next two
days, making efforts to increase containment problematic.
The southern half of the Wyoming is currently in a Red Flag Warning for today, and extreme fire behavior is expected on any new starts.
