LONGMONT, Colorado – The Colorado State Patrol has obtained an arrest warrant for and is actively seeking 41-year-old Manuel Nunez (A.K.A. Manuel Luna) of Longmont, who is wanted for his role in the crash-related death of a 7-year-old boy.
On August 23, Nunez was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer at the intersection of Highway 119 and Highway 52 when he traveled through a red light, swerved to avoid cross traffic, and rolled his vehicle. Multiple children in the vehicle were unrestrained, including the 7-year-old boy, who was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. The boy later died at Boulder Community Hospital.
Nunez is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. An arrest warrant for Nunez has been issued out of Boulder County for several charges, including child abuse resulting in death, a Class-2 felony, and vehicular homicide, a Class-3 felony.
Troopers believe that Nunez may have fled to California to stay with friends or is hiding in Colorado.
The Colorado State Patrol would like the public’s assistance in locating Nunez. He is described as a Hispanic male, six feet tall, 268 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
