Colorado State Patrol seeks fugitive suspect in child’s death

LONGMONT, Colorado – The Colorado State Patrol has obtained an arrest warrant for and is actively seeking 41-year-old Manuel Nunez (A.K.A. Manuel Luna) of Longmont, who is wanted for his role in the crash-related death of a 7-year-old boy.

OnĀ August 23, Nunez was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer at the intersection of Highway 119 and Highway 52 when he traveled through a red light, swerved to avoid cross traffic, and rolled his vehicle. Ā Multiple children in the vehicle were unrestrained, including the 7-year-old boy, who was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. Ā The boy later died at Boulder Community Hospital.
Nunez is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Ā An arrest warrant for Nunez has been issued out of Boulder County for several charges, including child abuse resulting in death, a Class-2 felony, and vehicular homicide, a Class-3 felony.
Troopers believe that Nunez may have fled to California to stay with friends or is hiding in Colorado.
The Colorado State Patrol would like the public’s assistance in locating Nunez. Ā He is described as a Hispanic male, six feet tall, 268 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.Ā
