Commissioners to Hold Public Hearing for Airport Modernization Project Grant Match

SWEETWATER COUNTY — The Sweetwater County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Tuesday for a budget amendment for the Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport in the amount of $222,222 to go toward a grant match to help fund the Commercial Terminal Modernization Project.

The funds are a local match for a $3 million grant from the Wyoming Business Council, which the Airport is submitting an application for.

During the last Commissioners meeting, the Commissioners agreed to provide the matching funds for the Wyoming Business Council grant. Tuesday, they will officially vote on the budget amendment following the public hearing.

The Commercial Terminal Modernization Project is an $18.5 million expansion. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is already contributing just under $13 million and the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is providing $1.5 million.

The Commissioners will also approve the submission of a Letter of Support for the Airport’s grant application to the Wyoming Business Council. The letter will show the Wyoming Business Council that the Commissioners and Sweetwater County are serious about improving the airport.

The Rock Springs City Council will also be voting on Tuesday on providing matching funds for the grant match.
