DAGGETT COUNTY — This morning at approximately 9:00 a.m., Albert Mike Garcia, age 53, briefly escaped custody from Sheriff Jerry Jorgensen while being transported from the Daggett County Courthouse for 8th District Court back to the Daggett County Jail.

He was transported in a vehicle without a cage and was able to release his seatbelt while handcuffed and belly-chained. Once he had his seatbelt released, he made aggressive movements towards the sheriff, causing him to pull the vehicle over. Mr. Garcia was unable to open the back doors, but he unlocked the front door coming through the front seat and out. Mr. Garcia then fled across an open field.

Daggett County deputies responded to the call assisting Sheriff Jorgensen, and they were able to get him back in custody in approximately 30 minutes without further incident. Mr. Garcia is currently back in custody at the Daggett County Jail.
