The 2020 winter sports season in Sweetwater County is just around the corner. With practices underway and game days approaching quickly, we’ve put together a preview for each team in Sweetwater County.
In preparation for the start of the season, we’ve gathered general information such as last year’s results, a few comments from the head coach and every team’s schedule.

GRHS Wrestling Overview
Head Coach: Josh Wisniewski – 3rd year as Head Coach
2019 Results: 4A West Regional Champions, 2nd at 4A State Championships, five individual state champions
Returning Wrestlers: Three returning state champions: Thomas Dalton, Dominic Martinez and Kade Flores. Two returning state placers: Conner Todd and Zach Weipert. Several others with varsity experience: Sage Wilde, Max Orr, Kadan Wilson, Brett Stanton, Camar Nunn, and Hunter Davis.
COACH’S CORNER
Q: Let’s talk a little bit about last season. What were you proud of? What did you wish went better?
Wisniewski: “I’m very proud of how this team came together and wrestled hard for one another. We won some big time matches down the stretch. Winning the Ron Thon Tournament, winning regionals and finishing with a second place finish at state. This team created a bond and memories that will last a lifetime.”
Q: What are your initial thoughts about this upcoming season?
Wisniewski: “I’m excited to start the season and can’t wait to see everyone on this team improve week to week.”
Q: How do you compare against the competition in your conference?
Wisniewski: “I’m excited to compete in this conference. All the teams are looking really good with great wrestlers.”
