LANDER – The Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns beat no. 1, but could not beat no. 2 as they finished an eventful opening day of the 1A West Region Tournament.
The ladies of Farson-Eden entered looking to take lessons learned in the regular season and use them in their advantage. Farson would see exactly where they stood as they faced the top team from the northwest, Burlington.
The Lady Pronghorns came out and made a statement as they took the first game 25-21. With momentum on their side, the ladies came out fired up in game two. In the end, it would be Farson going up two games with another 25-21 win.
In the third, the Lady Pronghorns continued to look sharp. They pulled the biggest upset of the day winning the third, 25-19.
With the opening round win, the ladies set themselves up for a chance at state. A win over Little Snake River in the second round would send them to the state championships.
Little Snake RIver entered as the second seed from the southwest. They dominated in their first round match against Meeteetse, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-11. LSR also holds a couple of regular season wins over FE this season.
Little Snake River held on in game one to take a 25-20 win and dominated game two. The Lady Pronghorns could not get out of the gate in the second as LSR went up 2-0, with a 25-9 win.
Facing the loss, the ladies came out and battled in the third. Farson needed extra points but were able to pull out game three, 27-25.
As the teams entered the fourth, the Lady Pronghorns could not carry it over. Showing some of the effects of a busy day, LSR took advantage to win, 25-13.
The Lady Pronghorns will have another chance to qualify for state on Saturday. Farson-Eden will take on Dubois at 9:30 a.m. with the winner qualifying for state and the loser calling it a season.
