New Role, Familiar Face: Rosette Hired as Tigers Basketball Coach

Bill Rosette

ROCK SPRINGS — Rock Springs High School (RSHS) hired a familiar face to fill the boys basketball head coaching job earlier this month.

In a social media post, Bill Rosette announced that he was named the new head coach of the Tigers’ basketball program.

“It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do since I got into this [coaching],” Rosette said.

If you’ve been around long enough, it’s no secret that Rosette is a big supporter of RSHS athletics. You can find him in the stands throughout the year, although you’ll find him out on the court this upcoming basketball season.

Rosette takes over a program that has now seen its fourth head coach since 2016. While some of the other coaches left for various reasons, Rosette has no plan of leaving town, which will bring some stability to the position.

For the last 20 years, Rosette has coached different sports from little league to high school. His first high school coaching job popped up in 2018 when Jason Buell was hired as the head coach. During that year, Rosette served on the team as the sophomore coach. After a quick year with Buell, former head coach Jeremy Main took over the program where Rosette has oversaw the junior varsity team for the past three seasons.

Rosette is a former Tiger who played basketball under current Wyoming Cowgirls Head Coach Gerald Mattinson back in the 80s. He also played under Mattinson at Western Wyoming Community College when he attended college.

If you were to ask Rosette, he considers himself an old school coach. His hope is to spark the defensive effort of his basketball teams.

“I want to get back to defense. It’s huge in my eyes. I really want to stop some teams,” Rosette said.

Another thing that Rosette said that he is proud to bring to the table as a coach is his ability to relate to kids.

“I think I relate to the kids really well,” Rosette said “I’ve been in their shoes before and they trust me.”

He also added that he plans to build on what previous coaches were doing.

“I think the culture was starting to change the last few years,” Rosette said. “I think they had everything pointed in the right direction and I plan on carrying that forward with my own twist.”

However the most important thing he hopes to achieve as a head coach is to build strong characters and be an influence for good in his athlete’s lives.

“Sports are just a little piece of their lives. If I can help send them in the right direction and make them a better person, that’s my hope,” Rosette said.

“I’m so excited and jacked to be a part of this program. It’s going to be fun,” Rosette said.
