RIVERTON – Due to warm temperatures, gusty southwest winds, and low humidity, a red flag warning has been issued for mainly portions of Natrona and Washakie counties for this afternoon through Tuesday evening. A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Today, an approaching disturbance will return chances for showers and thunderstorms across the west. Some isolated thunderstorms could produce gusty winds at times. The rest of the forecast area looks to remain mainly dry today, with some breezy conditions developing. Expect high temperatures to be near to slightly above normal today. Tonight, the mentioned disturbance will push across the region, continuing chances for showers and thunderstorms across the west through the night and into Tuesday morning. Shower activity will then diminish Tuesday afternoon, and dry with near normal temperatures can be expected for the remainder of the day.
