SWEETWATER COUNTY — Starting today, Sweetwater County residents can file for a political office for the upcoming 2022 Primary Election.
Those who have a desire to run for a city council, county commissioner, or a legislative or state office, can officially file for office until May 27 to be placed on the Primary Election ballot. The 2022 Primary Election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 16.
For some offices, candidates can file in person, for others, such as state offices, residents will be able to file online. For more information on how to file, check out the 2022 Candidate Guide.
There are also varying filing fees candidates will have to pay when filing for an office, according to the Sweetwater County Clerk’s Office.
Primary Candidate Filing Fees:
- $750 – Candidates for federal offices
- $300 – Candidates for statewide offices
- $100 – Candidates for state legislative and county offices
Not all candidates have to file for office now. Those who would like to run for a college board, school board, or a special district seat will not have to file until the General Election filing period, which takes place August 10-29. The General Election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 8.
