RS Council Finalizes Paintball Park Lease Agreement; Alcohol Permits Approved for Roller Derby, Ink Fest and Sweetwater Speedway

ROCK SPRINGS – The paintball park will remain in place as the Rock Springs City Council approved a lease agreement with Sweetwater County on Tuesday night.

The lease agreement for the paintball park – located off Elk Street on Community Drive – has been in place between Rock Springs and the county for over a decade. The commissioners approved the latest lease agreement in August.

Until 2013, the lease agreement was only good for a year. The agreement approved by both sides this time is for a two-year period. Before approving the agreement in August, staff explained to the Sweetwater County Commissioners there were a few small language changes. The changes were recommendations from the Sweetwater County Attorney’s Office to make the lease a little more specific.

There was no discussion by the Rock Springs City Council on the agreement as they unanimously voted to accept the lease.

Alcohol permits

The council approved a few malt beverage and liquor catering permits on Tuesday night.

The first one approved was a request from Sweetwater County Roller Derby for a malt beverage permit for the Sweet and Wild Roller Derby Showdown at the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center. The event will take place on Sept. 12 and the permit will be good from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Councilwoman Rose Mosbey voted against the permit. Mosbey has been consistent voting against every request for alcohol in the recreation center. She has said on numerous occasions while she is not against the groups asking for the permit, she does not see a need to have alcohol in the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center.

– The next request approved was for  two malt beverage permits for Sweetwater Dirt Racing on September 18 and 19 at the Sweetwater Events Complex. This request was unanimously approved. The permits are good from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each night.

– The final request approved was from Simba, Inc. for four liquor catering permits for the 2015 Ink Fest. This is the second year of the event and will take place Oct. 8-11 at the Sweetwater Events Complex. The permits are good from 11 a.m. to midnight each day.
