RS Council to Host Public Hearing on New Food Truck Vendor Regulations

ROCK SPRINGS — With the amount of mobile vendors growing in Rock Springs, the Rock Springs City Council is looking at creating an ordinance for permitting and regulating these types of businesses.

During the Rock Springs City Council meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall, the Council will host a public hearing to allow for public comments on a proposed mobile establishment regulation ordinance.

The seven-page ordinance was created to address the growing number of mobile food vendors operating within city limits. The proposed ordinance states, “The City of Rock Springs finds that it is in the best interests of the citizens of the City of Rock Springs to adopt reasonable rules for the permitting and regulation of mobile food establishments by requiring compliance with minimum standards for safety, security, and consistency.”

The ordinance goes on to define what is considered a mobile vendor, the permitting process, the suspension or revocation of a permit, operations and sales, location on private vs. public property, hours of operation, waste management, and enforcement.

Currently, mobile food vendors are being treated as “transient merchants,” according to the ordinance.

In order to pass an ordinance, the Council must read the ordinance three times. After listening to public comments and suggestions, the Council is scheduled to read the ordinance for the first time Tuesday night.
