GREEN RIVER– Members of the community braved the cold weather to run and walk in the Frostbite 5K, 10K, and 1 mile family run on Saturday morning in Green River.
The participants gathered at Expedition Island where the race both started and finished. They registered inside the pavilion to get out of the cold, and they could also enjoy some refreshments while inside.
Five minutes before the race started at 9:30 am, everyone gathered at the start line. The race went over the bridge and down the greenbelt along the icy river.
The temperature was no more than 10 degrees when the race began.
There were over 89 participants in the 5K and over 32 in the 10K.
Ryan Achatz (Rock Springs), Jason Maes (Rock Springs), and Ethan Sholey (Rock Springs) finished first, second, and third overall in the 5K. They ran times of 18:51.3, 20:11.0, and 20:36.4, respectively.
Ryan Giles (Rock Springs), Hector Ortega (Rock Springs), and Owen Burnett (Green River) took the top three spots in the 10K, running times of 36:36.9, 37:29.3, and 40:17.5, respectively.
