EVANSTON – A man is left with only his thoughts as he prepares to go after the gold. He knows the only thing that stands in his way is the fear a failing while still being driven by a fear of second place. Overcoming all obstacles, he soon finds himself standing on top of the podium.

While as a team, Green River finished fifth at the 4A West Regional Track and Field meet, Dylan Rust is finishing a tremendous year. He returned from Evanston with a little more hardware.

On Friday, Rust tore up the competition in Discus to take his first regional title. His throw of 168-11 was 27 feet further than the second place throw of Natrona’s Austin Luers. On Saturday he was back at it again in the shot put. When the dust cleared, Rust’s throw of 15-11.25 was over four feet better than second-place Morgan Jones of Natrona.

The Wolves had several other top ten regional finishes. Along with Rust in the shot put were three other Wolves. Paul Wright took fifth, Hayden Love in sixth and Matt Medina in Seventh. Wright and Love also joined Rust in the discus, Wright coming in sixth while Love in seventh. Rob Hunter just missed at top-ten coming in 11th.

In the triple jump, Drew Wilson finished in seventh while Riley Yeager sat just outside the top ten finishing in 13th. In the long jump, Trey McGhee finished in eighth with Wilson in ninth. Yeager again was just outside in 14th.

Other top ten’s included and eighth-place finish for Shawn McGuire in the 800 and a tenth-place finish for Curtis Westenskow in the 3200 meters.

 

Rock Springs Tigers

Individually, the Tigers were led by Krey Ramsey. Ramsey finished second in the 3200 meters while racing to another top five in the 1600 coming in fourth. Another top Tiger was Preston Portillo. He nabbed the only other Rock Springs top-three finish coming in third in the 800 meters.

Joe Depoyster had two top-ten finishes for Rock Springs. His top finish was sixth in the 3200 while also getting a ninth in the 1600 meters. Parker Jones also had a top ten in the 3200 coming in seventh.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Trent Rasmussen finished fifth while Kolton Legerski was right behind in seventh. The last top ten came on Friday with Brenden Lapp coming in ninth in the pole vault.
