CASPER – The Lady Tigers Volleyball team wrapped up the 2015 season as they lost twice on Friday to open the 4A West Regional Tournament.
The Lady Tigers entered as the sixth seed and opened with third seed Natrona. The Fillies rolled in the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-17. Down but not out, Rock Springs would answer in the third. They pulled within one game of forcing a fifth set with a 25-19 win.
The fourth set was close, but the Fillies were able to get the crucial point to take the match three games to one with a 25-23 win.
Facing elimination, the ladies of Rock Springs would have to get by Riverton. Fifth seed Riverton lost in the first round to Kelly Walsh in a five set battle, 25-11, 20-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-9.
It was be the Lady Tigers who came out strong to open the match. Rock Springs beat Riverton in the first, 25-21. The second set went down to the end. Riverton converted late to even the match, 26-24.
The loss in the tight second set seemed to take the air out of the Lady Tigers. Riverton would take another tough set in the third 25-22 and rolled in the fourth, 25-16, ending the Rock Springs Lady Tiger’s season.
Natrona ended up beating Kelly Walsh in five to qualify for state. Riverton and Kelly Walsh played the late game with the Lady Trojans qualifying for state eliminating Riverton in three.
The semifinals will get underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday with Kelly Walsh facing top seed Evanston. Natrona will face the second seed Green River Lady Wolves at noon. The third-place match will start at 2 p.m. followed by the championship match at 4 p.m.
