ROCK SPRINGS – Improving throughout the season and hitting the peak when it matters most is every coaches hope when they start the season. For the Green River Wolves Men’s Cross County team, they are hitting their stride at the right time.
At the Rock Springs Invitational, runners posted some of the fastest times the Wolves have had all season. Behind seven, top-20 finishes, Green River fell short of first by six points. Evanston scored the win with 36 points followed by the Wolves with 42. The Rock Springs Tigers trailed the Wolves by four points for third while Lander and Wyoming Indian rounded out the top five.
As they have all done all year, Braden Reichl and Brayden Kovick paced the team on Friday. It would be Reichl who would get his teammate in Rock Springs finishing in fourth with Kovick was right behind in fifth. Reichel was two seconds ahead of his teammate and about 30 seconds behind the top time set by Tiger Preston Portillo.
Also posting a top-ten finish for the Wolves was Eric Clingenpool. He posted a time of 17:39.03 which put him in the ninth spot overall. Just missing a fourth top-ten for Green River was Mike Moffat. He crossed in 18:01.77 to finish 11th. Following Moffat was Tanner Adams in 13th, Christian Gayton in 14th and Colton Minard in 19th.
It is off to Casper and Regionals next weekend followed by the State Championship race in Sheridan the following weekend.
