Shop With a Cop event brings Christmas cheer to local children and families

ROCK SPRINGS – Christmas came a little early for children who attended the annual Kiwanis Shop With a Cop event on Saturday morning in Rock Springs.

Deputy sheriffs and detention officers from the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, officers of the Rock Springs and Green River Police Departments, Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers and firefighters from the Rock Springs Fire Department and Sweetwater County Fire District #1, were provided with $125 K-Mart gift cards and teamed up with 35 disadvantaged children. The officers and firefighters then took the kids Christmas shopping at K-Mart.

Funds for the event were raised by local Kiwanians.

Volunteers from the Rock Springs High School Key Club, Kiwanis, and Trona Valley Credit Union helped wrap presents with wrapping materials provided by K-Mart, which also donated special gifts from Santa for the children.

As a special treat, Santa Claus, who as transported to the store by firefighters, made a surprise visit. Afterward, the children treated their families to breakfast at McDonald’s with special coupons provided by the Kiwanis Club and McDonald’s.
