SWCSD No. 1 Board to Take Action on Bus Routes and Graduation Dates

ROCK SPRINGS – Several items will be debated by the Sweetwater County School District No. 1 Board on Monday in preparation for the start of school Aug. 31. Included are the bus routes and the 2016 graduation dates.

There will be several items focused on the Transportation Department. The biggest agenda item will be the approval on the 2015 bus routes. For a look at the proposed bus routes go to http://www.sweetwater1.org/www/sweetwatercsd1/site/Hosting/School%20Board/Agenda%20Attachments/4-m-BusRoutes15-16.pdf.

While not specifically a Transportation Department item, the fuel bids will be voted on by the board. Bulk fuel for the Rock Springs area will be purchased on an as needed basis.

Staff reported four companies responded to the request for proposals, Homax, Red Horse, Cardwell Distribution and Kellerstrass Oil. One bid was received for the fuel needs in Wamsutter and two bids were received for propane needs in Farson.

Staff is recommending all companies in Rock Springs be placed on the approved vendor list for bulk fuel supplies.

If approved Wamsutter Conoco will be awarded the bid for Wamsutter while Valley Wide Cooperative/BriteGas will be awarded the propane bid in Farson. According to the report sent to the board, Eaton Investment will continue to be the supplier of fuel in Farson.

The Transportation Department will be going through a little change this year after long time Director Pete Rust stepped away. Fernando Moreno will be giving the board a look at the Transportation Visioning Plan on Monday.

Graduation Dates

Last year, the graduation dates for SWCSD No. 1 sparked concern after it was proposed to move the Rock Springs High School graduation date as the district worked to balance graduation and Wyoming State Soccer.

The board will take action on graduation dates on Monday. The proposed dates are as follows:

Black Butte High School – Tuesday, May 31 at 7 p.m.

Desert School Eighth Grade Reception – Wednesday, June 1 at 7 p.m.

Farson-Eden – Thursday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Rock Springs High School – Saturday, June 4 at 10 a.m.
