ROCK SPRINGS – Audits of government agencies are wrapping up and boards are starting to get reports about their finances. Sweetwater County School District No. 1 received a clean report.
At the recent SWCSD No. 1 Board meeting, Skogen, Cometto and Associates reported a clean or unqualified audit. The district’s audit started in July as was wrapped up at the end of October.
Several financial highlights were reported to the board. One of these was an increase of $5 million in assets over last year. While the district saw an increase in assets they also experienced a decrease of $565,000 in spending.
A representative from Skogen, Cometto and Associates explained there are three parts to the audit. The first is to do an overall review, on which the district received a clean report. Second, they audit the internal controls of the district. The representative said they did not find any issues in the internal controls.
Finally, the firm audits federal grants to make sure they are being used properly. The district received $7.8 million in federal grants this past fiscal year. Again, the representative said they did not find any issues there either.
After the report, the board unanimously accepted the audit report. Superintendent Kelly McGovern thanked Chief Financial Officer Scott Duncan and his staff for their hard work during the auditing process as well as their work year round to make sure all the district’s finances are being properly managed.
Technology
The board also approved several requests from the Technology Department. The first was a request to purchase 25 MacBooks for back up. These computers are needed in the event current student, administrator, classroom or mobile lab computers break or go down. This is a sole source purchase as the equipment can only be purchased from Apple, Inc.
The second request was to accept a bid to purchase networking great and installation for Black Butte High School. The district received two competitive bids. The first was from Venture Technologies for $83,370.82. The second came from Network Craze for $91,610. The board accepted the bid from Venture Technologies.
The final request approved was to renew the Filewave Client Support for $16,380. This is a sole source purchase from Filewave for 2,100 licenses and will run for a 12-month period from Feb. 1, 2015 to Jan. 31, 2016.
K-4 Boundaries

The first will start at 7 a.m. and should wrap up around 8:30 a.m. The second will start at 6 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m. The proposed boundaries will be presented to the board on Jan. 12, 2015.
