SWCSD No.1 will discuss computer use policy changes, changes to curriculum and several financial requests including a budget update at Monday night’s meeting

ROCK SPRINGS – It is a full agenda for the Monday night Sweetwater County School District No. 1 Board meeting with several items up for discussion and action. One item which will not be acted on Monday but will be provided to the board for review is a change to the policies addressing student internet use and internet access.

The School Board will be presented changes to the policies addressing student internet use and internet access. While a lot of it is cleaning up language in the policies, the big change involves consequences of violating the use and access policy.

Under first offense, the old policy stated a student violating the policy would have privileges revoked for 45 days from the date of the offense. The change states a student who violates Policy JFCM in grades kindergarten through 12th shall be disciplined at the discretion of the building principal.

Under second offense the old policy said the student will no longer be allowed to use the district wide network for a semester from the date of the offense. The proposed change states a student who violates Policy JFCM in grades kindergarten through 12 shall be disciplined for up to three days suspension and may receive additional disciplinary action.

Under the third offense the old policy said privileges are revoked permanently, throughout their remaining school years. The proposed change reads student who violates Policy JFCM in grades kindergarten through 12 shall be disciplined for up to five days suspension and may receive additional disciplinary action.

Under the old policy, there was not a fourth offense but under the proposed changes, one will be added. It reads a student who violates Policy JFCM in grades kindergarten through 12 shall be disciplined for up to 10 days suspension and may receive additional disciplinary action.

These policies will be presented to the board on Monday. They board will then review them for a month before taking action on them at the board meeting in February.

Curriculum

The board will vote on course name changes, additions and deletions of classes at Rock Springs High School, course additions at Black Butte High School and course name changes at Rock Springs Junior High.

Actions at the high school involve the addition of visual narratives, Spanish for heritage speakers and 2-D and 3-D art, name changes to several reading classes and the removal of pre-algebra.

At Black Butte, the board will act on two additions to course offerings which include intro to Photoshop and Human Anatomy and Physiology while they will vote on two course name changes at the RSJH involving writing classes.

The board will also vote on the hiring of Kristine Ellison for the P.E./Health instructor position at the Rock Springs High School. If approved, the hiring will be for the remainder of the school year.

Finance

The board will take action on a request to purchase fitness equipment for Black Butte High School.

Three bids were received by the school district on the equipment. Each bid listed the prices and numbers of the equipment which would be purchased. Every bid was different. The low bid was from Bigger Faster Stronger Inc., at $17,217 for four pieces of equipment. Advanced Exercise Equipment’s bid was $24,989.42 for six pieces of equipment while Conner Athletic Products’ bid came in at $26,842 for four pieces of equipment.

Staff noted the bids from Bigger Faster Stronger and Conner Athletics were not complete.

Staff is recommending the bid be awarded to Advanced Exercise Equipment for two rowing machines, one treadmills, one elliptical cross trainer, one fitness bike and one multi-jungle which includes tricep pushdowns, lat pulldowns, row, adjustable pulley, MJ Core and handle rack.

Staff said the aerobic equipment is identical to the equipment currently at the Rock Springs High School and Rock Springs Junior High.

Technology

The board will take action on two requests from the district’s IT Department. The first is to authorize the department to initiate the renewal of Healthmaster Software. The renewal cost is $19,765 which will include 25 Health Office Anywhere licenses and one e-learning renewal.

The second request is to authorize the department to initiate the server and uninterrupted power supply purchase at Black Butte High School.

This will involve two Apple Mac Mini Servers and XMac Mini Rack, server parts and two Uninterrupted Power Supply with battery pack and PDU strips. The total cost is $14,761.56

Staff reported the purchase of the Apple Mac Mini Servers is a sole source purchase as the servers can only be purchased through Apple. The UPS with battery pack and strip will be through CDW-G, which was the best price vendor.
