SWEETWATER COUNTY — Green River, Rock Springs and Farson-Eden volleyball will head into regional tournament play Friday, with the Lady Wolves and Lady Tigers traveling to Jackson for the 4A West Regional and Farson-Eden competing in Lander at the 1A West Regional. All three teams will look to secure a spot at the state tournament, with their paths depending on the results of their opening-round matches.
Green River Opens as Southwest’s Top Seed
Green River enters the 4A West Regional as the No. 1 seed out of the 4A Southwest after finishing the regular season 16-11 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Lady Wolves will face Riverton, the No. 4 seed out of the 4A Northwest, at 10 a.m. Friday.
A win would advance Green River to a 4 p.m. semifinal match against the winner of Natrona County and Star Valley, which are scheduled to meet following the Lady Wolves opener. The winner of that 4 p.m. matchup would qualify for the state tournament and advance to the regional championship Saturday at 3 p.m.
If Green River loses its opening match, the Lady Wolves will play an elimination game at 9 a.m. Saturday against the loser of the Natrona County-Star Valley match. The losing team will be eliminated from regional competition, while a Green River win would keep the team’s state tournament hopes alive and advance it to another elimination match.
Rock Springs Faces Evanston in Opening Round
Rock Springs finished the regular season 14-17 overall and 3-3 in conference play, earning the No. 3 seed out of the 4A Northwest. The Lady Tigers will open against Evanston, the No. 2 seed out of the 4A Southwest, at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
With a win, Rock Springs would advance to face the winner of the Cody-Jackson matchup, scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday. The winner of that second-round match, set for 5:30 p.m., will qualify for state and advance to Saturday’s regional championship.
A loss to Evanston would send the Lady Tigers into the elimination bracket. Rock Springs would face the loser of Cody and Jackson at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the losing team eliminated from regional competition. A win would keep Rock Springs in contention for a state berth and send the Lady Tigers into another elimination game.
Farson-Eden Begins 1A West Regional in Lander
Farson-Eden enters the 1A West Regional as the No. 2 seed out of the Southwest after a 11-11 overall season and a 5-3 conference record. The Lady Pronghorns face Meeteetse, the No. 3 seed out of the Northwest, at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the auxiliary gym.
A win would advance the Pronghorns to a 9 p.m. semifinal against the winner of Burlington and Arapaho Charter in the Field House, who meet at 1 p.m. Friday. The winner of the semifinal will qualify for state and advance to the regional championship Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
If Farson-Eden loses its opening match, the Pronghorns will face the loser of Burlington and Arapaho Charter at 9 p.m. Friday in an elimination game back in the auxiliary gym. A loss would end Farson-Eden’s season, while a win would advance the team to an 11 a.m. elimination match Saturday. The winner of that match would secure a state tournament berth and advance to the third-place match, while the losing team would be eliminated.
All three Sweetwater County teams will begin regional play Friday, with Green River and Rock Springs competing in Jackson and Farson-Eden traveling to Lander. The opening results will determine each team’s next opponent and how quickly the teams must work to secure a place at the state tournament.
