SWEETWATER COUNTY — The Sweetwater Event Complex is submitting an application for the T-Mobile Hometown Grant program through the SEC Foundation in hopes of funding lighting upgrades and an industrial fan in the indoor arena.

The events complex will be seeking a letter of support for the grant application from the Sweetwater County Board of Commission during Tuesday’s meeting. The Commission will meet at the Sweetwater County Courthouse on Tuesday, October 19, at 8:30 a.m.

According to the project proposal, the events complex would like to install an energy-efficient and dependable lighting system and industrial fan for the indoor arena to improve safety and ventilation.

The proposed plan serves three purposes, according to the documents:

  • Increase safety and comfort for competitors and spectators for equestrian, 4-H, FFA, BMX and motocross events.
  • Increase safety for future drive-thru vaccine clinics by providing adequate lighting for nurses to successfully vaccinate the community. The industrial fan also provides increased air circulation tohelp mitigate the spread of any airborne disease that the clinic may be vaccinating for.
  • Increase safety by providing a well-lit space if the facility is needed as the county’s emergency shelter location.

The total estimated cost of the project is $49,744.

The events complex stated that the indoor arena is used for more than 300 events throughout the year, and it is the only indoor arena in the county.
