ROCK SPRINGS – After winning the final game of he Gillette Invitational, the Rock Springs Tigers made it two in a row Thursday night. The Tigers opened the Flaming Gorge Classic with a win over North Summit, 62-45.
It would be the Braves who would get off to the quick start scoring the first six of the game. Jordan Jenkins, Demetrius Davenport and Jared Rodriguez would bring the Tigers back. A steal by Austin Pivic would result in a Davenport bucket and a tie score at eight.
The Tigers would continue to add to the lead for the remainder of the first quarter and the start of the second. Around the halfway mark of the second quarter, the Tigers took a nine-points lead, 21-12.
North Summit would pull back within four but a Trevor Hautala three would have Rock Springs going again. Carter Rosette would score six straight to end the half as the Tiers took a 32-19 lead at the break.
North Summit would come out of the locker room running as they started the second half with a 6-2 run. Pivic would battle hard in the post and offensive rebounds would lead to Tiger points. Davenport would get going again offensively and after three Rock Springs took the lead, 42-29.
Jenkins would find Kelby Kramer to get the fourth quarter started. Rosette would add four more points, Rodriguez would hit a three and Ryan Brandt would score in the post as Rock Springs took a commanding lead, 55-37.
Davenport would score the next four as the Tigers went up 22 with three minutes left. From there it was academic for Rock Springs as they would take a the win, 62-45.
Demetrius Davenport finished with 22 points and five rebounds to lead the Tigers. Carter Rosette would also break the 20-point mark with 21 in the win. Rodriguez finished with seven.
The Tigers will look to make it three straight on Friday as the host 3A Mountain View. The game will tip at 2:40 p.m. at RSHS.
