Cowgirls Close Homestand with 3-0 Win Over Fresno State

LARAMIE – The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team had three players notch their first goal of their career in a 3-0 win over Fresno State Sunday afternoon at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Wyoming is now 5-2-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Mountain West.
“To have three players get their first goal of the season is something that we need,” UW soccer head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “It’s great to have that happen, it shows that it was a team win and that everyone was playing well and creating chances.”
Freshman midfielder Annika Clayton recorded the first of the afternoon for the Cowgirls with a header off a free kick from sophomore forward Shaina Ashouri in the 16th minute of the match. Sophomore midfielder Summer Halle tallied the second goal in the 41st minute off a pass from junior forward Laurel Ramer, who received a cross from Ashouri. Freshman defender Taylor Burton headed in the last goal for the Cowgirls in the 67th minute off a free kick from Ashouri.
The Cowgirls dominated the match on both sides of the pitch tallying 13 shots, two corners and forcing their fifth shutout of the season. Wyoming’s defense only allowed four shots from the Bulldogs, all of them coming in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Cassidy Entsminger recorded the only saves of the match with two.
Ashouri led UW in shots and assists with three. Clayton and junior defender Katie Marcheso each recorded two shots. Defenders Alisha Bass and Kimmy Burbank and forwards Laurel Ramer and Kayla Cryer had one shot of their own as well.
The match against FSU concludes the six-game stretch at home for the Cowgirls. Wyoming will return to action on Friday against Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Cowgirls Drop Match Against Spartans 1-0 in Overtime
UW loses first home match since 2013
LARAMIE – The University of Wyoming soccer team lost its first home match since 2013 on Friday afternoon against the San José State falling in overtime 1-0 at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
San José State’s Darriell Franklin shot a ball passed freshman goalkeeper Cassidy Entsminger to score for the Spartans in the 96th minute of the match.
Wyoming’s defense stayed strong throughout regulation as goalkeepers Georgia Rowntree and Entsminger recorded three saves each. UW only allowed 13 total shots with eight of them coming in the second half.
The Cowgirl’s offensive pressure was present as they had three corner kicks to SJSU’s one. Sophomore forward Shaina Ashouri led UW in shots with two. Junior forwards Anne Hinman and Laurel Ramer and defenders Taylor Burton, Alisha Bass and Alyssa Murray each notched one shot on the afternoon.
Cowgirl Soccer Earns NSCAA Academic Award; Wyoming ranked second among Mountain West schools

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 academic year, the NSCAA announced Wednesday. It was the fifth time the Cowgirls have been recognized for the award and first time since 2013.
Wyoming is one of 554 collegiate women soccer teams that posted a grade point average of 3.0 or higher to earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award.
“The success in the classroom comes from the entire athletic department. It’s something that we take pride in and are very proud of. I give kudos to the players and kudos to our academic support staff.” – Cowgirl Head Coach Pete Cuadrado.
The Cowgirls posted a 3.24 grade point average during the academic year. From 2008 to 2010, UW earned the award three consecutive years and one more time in 2013.
Wyoming was among three other Mountain West programs to be recognized. Nevada (3.13), UNLV (3.19) and Utah State (3.51) were the other three conference teams to earn the award.
