BREAKING: Arcing Power Lines Cause Brush Fire, Power Outage

SWEETWATER COUNTY — Wamsutter Fire and Sweetwater County Fire are working a small brush fire about mm 184 of Interstate 80 in the area of Continental Divide Road.

Arcing power lines that are down due to high winds are the cause of the fire.

“Thankfully there is still some patches of snow on the ground that has helped contain the fire in these high winds that have gusted up to 50 mph in the area. There may be some areas on the far eastern edge of Sweetwater County that may be without power,” Sweetwater County Fire Warden Michael Bournazian said.

The fire departments on the scene are waiting for the power company’s arrival to secure the lines and complete extinguishment of the fire.
