4A West Boy’s Regional Track Results: Rock Springs in third overall while Dylan Rust brings home discus championship for the Wolves

EVANSTON – It will be tough for anyone to catch Natrona on the track this year as they opened big on Friday at the 4A West Regional Championships.

After the first day of the Regional Track tourney Natrona has a 54.50 point lead over second-place Kelly Walsh. Rock Springs is in third with 28 points followed by Evanston, Riverton and Green River.

Individually, Rock Springs had several good finishes on day one. Krey Ramsey finished second in the 3200 finals. The Tigers were strong in the 3200 as they had four in the top 10, Along with Ramsey’s second, Clay Goich finished fifth, Joe Depoyster finished sixth and Parker Jones finished seventh.

In the 800 meter finals, Preston Portillo was the only Tiger in the top 10 as he crossed the line in third place.

Several Tigers had strong preliminary runs on Friday and will run for titles on Saturday. Carlos Salcido will have three chances as he finished in second place in the 100, 200 and 400. Also in the 400, Chandler Cork finished in ninth.

In the 110 hurdles, Kolton Legerski raced to a fifth place finish in the prelims. Trent Rasmussen was right behind in sixth. Something which is not seen too often for Rock Springs or Green River is a strong finish in pole vault. On Friday, Tiger Brenden Lapp broke the top ten in the finals finishing in ninth.

 

Green River

Several Green River Wolves took top-ten finishes on Friday but none bigger than Dylan Rust. Green River has looked good in the field events this season and Dylan Rust showed why taking the Regional Championship in the Discus.

While Rush led the way, several other Wolves had strong finishes in the discus. Paul Wright finished sixth, Hayden Love seventh and Rob Hunter just missed a top-ten finish coming in 11th.

In the 800 Finals, Green River had two in the top 10. Shawn McGuire finished in eighth while Braden Reichl followed in ninth. In the 3200 meter finals Curtis Westenskow crossed the line in 10th.

Green River had two more top ten finishes in the long jump finals. Trey McGhee paced the Wolves with a eighth-place jump while Drew Wilson was right behind in ninth.
