LARAMIE — The University of Wyoming soccer team returns home Thursday when the Cowgirls host Weber State at 4 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.

Wyoming enters the match 2-0-0 after opening the season with victories over Drake and Northern Colorado. The Cowgirls defeated Drake 1-0 on a goal from Alyssa Glover with 14 seconds remaining before posting a 3-0 victory over Northern Colorado in the Front Range Derby.

Through two matches, Wyoming has shown its ability to adjust to different styles of play, something coach Josh Purdum said has been beneficial early in the season.

“We are seeing different systems challenge us in different ways,” Purdum said. “We are seeing how teams are putting us in pressure pockets or not, and we are figuring out how we can exploit teams differently.”

Four different Wyoming players have scored through the first two matches. That is a faster distribution of scoring than last season, when it took 13 matches for the Cowgirls to produce their fourth different goal scorer.

Glover and Maddie Burr entered the season with previous scoring experience, while Reese Gould and Brooke Brown each recorded the first goals of their careers Sunday against Northern Colorado.

Gould scored in the 32nd minute before Burr doubled Wyoming’s lead in the 63rd. Brown capped the scoring with a penalty kick in the 80th minute.

Goalkeeper Haley Bartel has yet to allow a goal this season. She recorded two saves against both Drake and Northern Colorado and set a new Wyoming program record with 20 career shutouts.

Weber State enters Thursday’s match with a 0-1-1 record. The Wildcats opened the season with a 0-0 draw at Utah before losing 4-1 at home to Boise State.

Weber State was picked to win the Big Sky Conference in the preseason coaches poll. The Wildcats finished second in the conference standings in 2025 before falling to Montana on penalties in the conference tournament championship match.

“Weber is going to be a very organized team and a very competitive team,” Purdum said. “They’re going to look to clip us on Thursday, so we have to be prepared for them.”

Following Thursday’s match, Wyoming will have a week between games. The Cowgirls return to action Aug. 27 when they host South Carolina at the Madrid Sports Complex.

The match will be streamed live on MW+.
