LARAMIE — Isabel Vasco made her first career start one to remember Sunday.

The Green River High School graduate scored twice, including the first goal of her collegiate career, as the University of Wyoming soccer team defeated South Dakota 5-2 on Senior Day at the Madrid Sports Complex.

Vasco’s first goal came in the fourth minute, giving the Cowgirls an early lead and marking the first score of her Wyoming career. Her second came in the 63rd minute, when Maddie Burr found Vasco to make it 4-1. Vasco also assisted on Alyssa Glover’s second goal of the afternoon in the 61st minute.

The performance came just days after Vasco recorded her second career assist in Wyoming’s 2-1 loss to South Carolina. She assisted Glover on the Cowgirls’ lone goal in the 57th minute, helping Wyoming rally in the second half after falling behind 2-0.

Vasco’s first career start was also part of a record-setting offensive performance for Wyoming. The Cowgirls produced two players with multiple goals in the same match for the first time in program history, with Vasco and Glover each scoring twice.

Glover opened her scoring with a goal in the 27th minute before adding another in the 61st minute. The two goals gave her four for the season and 22 for her career, moving her into a tie for third on Wyoming’s all-time scoring list. Alisa Bunn added Wyoming’s final goal in the 80th minute after receiving a pass from Erin Dahl. It marked the most goals Wyoming has scored in a single match during Purdum’s tenure.

Haley Bartel played the first 70 minutes in goal and allowed one goal. Julia Herges entered in the 70th minute and also allowed one goal.

The Cowgirls dominated possession opportunities reflected in the shot totals, outshooting South Dakota 19-5 and holding a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. The victory improved Wyoming to 3-2-0 on the season, while South Dakota fell to 2-2-2.

For Vasco, the performance added another chapter to a remarkable soccer career that began in Green River. Vasco was the 2025-26 Gatorade Wyoming Girls Soccer Player of the Year after scoring 54 goals and recording 10 assists as a senior. She finished her high school career with 228 goals, making her Wyoming’s all-time leading goal scorer. She also became the first girls soccer player in Green River High School history to receive the Gatorade Player of the Year honor.

Vasco now has her first collegiate goals, scoring twice in her first career start.

Wyoming begins a five-week road stretch Thursday at Gonzaga. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
