Laramie – Both Rock Springs and Green River will be battling on Wednesday as the A American Legion State Baseball Tournament gets underway.
Rock Springs will open against the third seed in the North, Douglas. The game gets underway bright and early at 9 a.m. Don’t let Douglas fool you as they bring a lot to the table. Douglas finished the season in first place in the northeast division with a record of 32-26 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
The South Conference did get a look at Douglas during this year’s Green River Knight Invitational. During the tournament, Douglas beat Riverton, 6-4, Evanston 13-2 and Green River 5-2.
Douglas is led by Marvin Malone and Stryker Davis who were both named to the North All-District First team. Malone was named the North Player of the Year and Archie Hay Post 24 will need to keep him off the base paths on Wednesday.
Douglas beat the Casper Drillers for third place at the district tournament this past weekend.
The North fourth seed Casper will face off against Green River to start the state tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Green River is the top seed from the south after beating Rock Springs in the district tournament this past weekend. The Drillers finished with a 5-5 record in the Northeast Division and a winning record overall at 25-19.
Casper was beat in the first round in the North Tournament by Powell 13-3 but bounced back to get to state by beating Cheyenne 8-7. Douglas beat Casper 9-3 for third place.
Justin Petrossi is one of the leaders for Casper as he was named to the All-District North team. The drillers had three players named to the second team that Green River will have to also be carefull with. They are Bransen Taheri, Ben Sumate and Dylan Miller.
