Budget Resolution is Last Step for GRPD to Purchase Radios

GREEN RIVER — The Green River City Council will consider approval of a budget resolution which will be the last step needed for the Green River Police Department (GRPD) to purchase portable radios.

The Council will meet Tuesday, October 19, at 7 p.m. at Green River City Hall.

In August 2021, the GRPD applied for a Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funds (CESF) Grant from the Division of Criminal Investigation for the purchase of portable radios. On September 28, the police department was informed that they have been awarded the grant funding, and on October 5, the Council approved an agreement for these funds.

The Council will now vote to approve a budget resolution increasing the General Fund Budget for the Police Administration Division in the amount of $145,182.84 as the final step to accept the funds. After Council approval, GRPD will purchase the radios, replacing their old ones, which are approximately 15 years old.

The CESF grant was awarded with the intent to prevent, prepare, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of Sweetwater County law enforcement’s COVID-19 response plan, agencies throughout the county are meant to assist each other when necessary. The new radios are being purchased due to incompatibility between the GRPD’s and the Rock Springs Police Department’s radios.
