GREEN RIVER – The Green River City Council unanimously accepted a $30,000 grant to update the city’s firewall and network switches during its meeting Tuesday night.
The Wyoming Office of Homeland Security recently awarded the City of Green River a Fiscal Year 2021 State Homeland Security Program Grant, in the amount of $30,339.05, and the Council has officially approved those funds.
The grant, which is 100 percent federally funded, will help the city update its firewall and network switches that help keep the city’s online activity protected.
“Those are our two main lifebloods in our network system. One keeps stuff out, the other one keeps everything right,” Chris Meats, Green River Director of Finance said.
The goal of the grant is to enhance the ability of governments and nonprofits to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks.
“You can never beef your firewalls up too much,” Meats said.
The Council also read a proclamation for Diabetes Awareness Month, which is November, and another proclamation for Extra Mile Day, which took place November 1.
