Cowgirl Basketball Faces Tough Road Test against Fresno State; Game is set for an 8 p.m. MT tip-off

LARAMIE – The Wyoming women’s basketball team will return to the court on Wednesday to face the Fresno State Bulldogs. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. MT. at Save Mart Center in Fresno. Live stats, audio and video can be found on the women’s basketball Gameday Central page located on GoWyo.com.

The Cowgirls enter Wednesday’s contest with a 13-11 mark, 8-6 in conference and riding a four-game winning streak. Last time out, UW defeated Nevada, 77-54, in Laramie. Kayla Woodward finished the night with a season-high 26 points shooting 9-of-14 from the field and 6-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Marquelle Dent followed with 17 points and a game-high nine assists and four steals. Jordan Kelley added 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds while Kaitlyn Mileto finished with 12.

As a team, Wyoming shot 28-of-53 (.528) from the field, including 13-of-24 (.542) in the second half, a season-high 11-of-16 (.688) from beyond the arc and 10-of-12 (.833) from the charity stripe. The Cowgirls outrebounded Nevada by one, 36-35, and recorded 26 points in the paint. 

Dent leads the way averaging 17.2 points, 6.1 assists and 2.4 steals. Woodward follows with a team-high 7.5 rebounds plus 15.6 points. Mileto is averaging 12.0 points while Kelley is adding eight points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists in her 24 contests this season.  As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting 559-of-1416 (.409) from the field, 187-of-510 (.367) from the beyond the arc and 297-of-423 (702) from the charity stripe.

The Bulldogs are 18-7 overall, 10-4 in league play and sit in third place behind CSU and New Mexico in the MW. Senior forward Alex Sheedy leads the way with 15.8 points and a team-high 7.2 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Raven Fox follows with 8.6 points and 2.3 boards. The Bulldogs average 64.1 points compared to 59.6 points for their opponents.

This will be the 23rd meeting between the two schools. Fresno State leads the series 12-10. The last time the two teams met was January 17, 2015. The Bulldogs earned a 66-65 victory in Laramie. Fresno State is coached by Jaime White who is in her first season with the program.
