ROCK SPRINGS — The Rock Springs City Council unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding tonight between the Rock Springs Fire Department (RSFD) and Sweetwater County Fire District (SCFD) No. 1 to allow the departments to pursue a nearly $345,000 Federal Assistance to Firefighters grant for new radio equipment.
Under the MOU, the RSFD and SCFD No. 1 will purchase radio equipment of their fire stations, apparatus and personnel through funding from the grant.
If the grant application is approved, the RSFD would receive around $222,000, while SCFD No.1 would receive around $123,000, for a total of nearly $345,000.
The grant does require a 10 percent match from both agencies, with the RSFD’s match being around $22,000, while SCFD No. 1’s match being around $12,000, for a total match of a little more than $34,000.
The Council approved a request from the Parks and Recreation Department for permission to move forward with the acquisition of various water well components to rehabilitate Well #5 and #6 at the White Mountain Golf Course. The rehabilitation is estimated to cost around $52,000.
