GREEN RIVER — The Green River Police Department (GRPD) will purchase a $5,600 driving simulator thanks to funding received from a grant and a donation from the Green River Fire Department (GRFD).
The Green River City Council authorized the GRPD to accept $5,000 in grant funds from the State Farm Foundation for the simulator. The other $600 is being donated by the GRFD Social Fund.
The driving simulator will be used for educational purposes within the department. The purpose of the simulator is to promote safe driving in programs directed by the GRPD.
The GRPD is also leasing six new SUV’s and the GRFD is getting one new truck. Out of four bids, Spradley Barr Motors came in at the lowest amount at $387,259. The city will lease these trucks through a leasing agent.
Chris Meats, Green River Director of Finance, said the goal is for the police department to be able to get into a steady rotation for their vehicles in which they rotate out four vehicles each year.
Meats said the city hopes to receive the vehicles in about nine months.
