GILLETTE — The Wyoming High School tennis season came to a close Saturday in Gillette, with Green River and Rock Springs each sending multiple players and doubles teams to the state tournament and three Sweetwater County entries finishing among the top four in their brackets.

Green River’s Rylin Arnell posted the highest finish for a Sweetwater County player, taking second in No. 1 girls singles. Arnell went 3-1 during the tournament and lost only one set all weekend before meeting Jackson Hole’s Caroline Brokaw in the championship match. Brokaw won 6-1, 6-0 to give Arnell the runner-up finish.

Green River also had its No. 2 boys doubles team of Blaise Taylor and Lucas Hokanson finish fourth. The duo won three of five matches at state, including a second-round matchup against Rock Springs’ Aven Conover and Trevor Thompson. Taylor and Hokanson won that match 7-6 (8-6), 7-5. Conover and Thompson went on to split their final two matches and finished 2-2.

Taylor and Hokanson advanced to the third-place match but fell to Sheridan’s Christian Laman and Lawson Woodrow to finish fourth.

Rock Springs’ No. 2 girls doubles team of Sophia Pugmire and Braelyn Harris also finished fourth after going 4-2 at state. The pair won its opening match before dropping its second and moving into the third-place bracket. Pugmire and Harris then won three straight matches to reach the third-place match, where they faced Natrona County’s Talia O’Brien and Paula Garcia. The Natrona County team won a close three-set match 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-0), leaving Pugmire and Harris in fourth place.

The rest of the local singles entries also put together several wins during the three-day tournament. Green River’s Lucas Arnold went 2-2 in No. 1 boys singles, while Kaiden Olsen won his opening match in No. 2 singles before dropping his next two. Rock Springs’ Matthew Wren went 0-2 in No. 1 singles, while Clint Copsey went 0-2 in No. 2 singles.

In boys doubles, Green River’s Quentin Bundy and Jacob Britton went 1-2 in No. 1 doubles, while Rock Springs’ Gentry Swafford and Dax Ogden split their four matches. In No. 3 doubles, Rock Springs’ Koda Thompson and Noah George won their opening match before dropping their next two, while Green River’s Kyler Steiss and Joe Lovato also went 1-2 after losing their first match, winning their second and falling in their third.

On the girls side, Green River’s Sydney Lopez went 1-2 in No. 2 singles. Lopez dropped her opening match, won her second and then was eliminated in her third. Rock Springs’ Olivia Davies went 0-2, while Addie Aanerud went 0-2 in No. 1 singles.

Green River’s No. 1 doubles team of Brynley Beutel and Megan Thomas won its opening match before falling in the second and moving into the third-place bracket. The duo could not advance further and finished 1-2. Rock Springs’ Talia Knudsen and Emery Punches-Mickelson took a different path after losing their opening match, winning three straight matches before falling one victory short of a top-three finish. They ended the tournament 3-2, with their run including three 6-0 sets and another set won 6-1.

In No. 2 girls doubles, Green River’s Bianca Maez and Taylor Kendall went 1-2. After losing their opening match and winning their second, they were eliminated by Rock Springs’ Pugmire and Harris 6-1, 6-3. Maez and Kendall’s opening-round loss came against the eventual third-place finishers, O’Brien and Garcia, putting the Green River duo into a difficult portion of the bracket.

Green River’s Emma Johnson and Katelyn Tanner went 2-2 in No. 3 doubles, winning their opening match before dropping into the third-place bracket. They picked up another victory before falling in their fourth match. Rock Springs’ Ella Wiig and Makenna Wren finished 0-2.

Cheyenne Central won both team championships. Central scored 53 points to win the boys title, with Green River finishing 10th with 8.5 points and Rock Springs 13th with 4.5. In the girls standings, Central finished first with 51 points, Green River took sixth with 19 points and Rock Springs finished 10th with seven.

With the state tournament complete, the 2026 Wyoming high school fall tennis season has come to an end.
