GREEN RIVER – Are you afraid of monsters? Well, you can face your fears at the Sweetwater County Library in Green River, and help the food bank while you’re at it.
The library is hosting its Monster Walk and Monster Fest on Saturday, Oct. 4. The event will kick off with a Monster Walk – a monster parade through downtown Green River.
“Monsters of all ages are invited to meet at the library at 4:30 p.m. with a can of food to get ready to march in the Monster Walk, which starts at 5 p.m.,” said Ellie Davis, Youth Services manager at the library. “We will lead a lurching parade of zombies, vampires, werewolves and fiends of all kinds to Centennial Park for an awesome costume contest featuring a great crew of judges and cool prizes for winners.”
Joining the Monster Walk parade is the Nyte Terror float and its monstrous mascot, Meg, from the Red Desert Roundup Parade. Families and people of all ages are invited to watch the parade in downtown Green River.
After the costume contest at the park, those who are high school age and older are invited to lurch over to the library for Monster Fest. The fest will feature the live bands. “This year we welcome the groovy sounds of Primary Source,” Davis said, “plus the face melting hard core metal sounds of Paralys, and Miscreations of Man – plus more bands will soon be announced.”
Admission to Monster Fest is a can for the Food Bank.
Mini-Monster Con
As a lead-up to the Monster Walk and Monster Fest, the library’s teen night will feature a Mini-Monster Con. Teens are invited to drop by the library between 4 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 2.
“The library will be full of fun as we gear up for Monster Fest,” Davis said. “You’ll be able to decorate your own Day of the Dead cookie, howl at the moon and learn some epic make-up techniques.”
The library will also have panels on things such as “How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypes.”
“Throughout it all, keep your eyes open for Meg, the 9-foot tall creature who will be lurking around the library and offering tips to help everyone prepare for the upcoming Monster Fest.”
