ROCK SPRINGS — The Rock Springs Police Department says it arrested a man for allegedly attacking an employee at the Elk Street Maverik convenience store Monday afternoon.
According to a social media post by the RSPD, police responded to a disturbance at the store around 1:55 p.m. The department claims the incident started after the unnamed subject entered the store and approached an employee at the front counter. The subject allegedly wrapped his arms around the employee’s neck in an unprovoked headlock, which the employee broke free from.
A second person approached the two to deescalate the situation and was allegedly pushed by the subject multiple times before allegedly wrapping their arms around the person’s neck. During the struggle, the RSPD claims the second person sustained neck pain and cuts to his arm after making contact with the store shelves.
The RSPD claims the subject had signs of apparent drunkenness, saying the person had a strong alcoholic odor coming from them and slurred speech. The RSPD also claims the person, after being read their rights, admitted to drinking “a significant amount” of alcohol earlier in the day.
The person was arrested and transported to the Sweetwater County Detention Center on charges of Battery, Assault, Criminal Trespass, and Public Intoxication.
