Patsy Joy Smith, a beloved member of the Eden, community, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the University of Utah Medical Center on her 78th birthday, Monday, August 10, 2026.
She was born in Williston, North Dakota, the daughter of Wesley Ardan Nelson and Gloria LaVonne Nelson. Patsy lived a life rich in love, family, and dedication to her community.
Patsy was a proud graduate of Boulder High School, Class of 1966, in Colorado, where she spent her formative years. With a passion for caregiving, she earned her Certified Nursing Associate certificate, using her skills to enrich the lives of those around her.
She married the love of her life Daniel Kirk Smith September 14, 1974 on Flagstaff Mountain, Colorado. He preceded her in death in 1986.
A dedicated entrepreneur, Patsy was the co-owner of the Eden Saloon for 29 memorable years, retiring in 2018. She formed many relationships and touch many lives, leaving a lasting impression on all who met her. Before taking on the role of an owner/operator, she worked at the Oregon Trail Cafe as a devoted waitress for two years.
Patsy found immense joy tending to her beautiful flower gardens, traveling on her Harley, hunting, fishing, camping, cooking with love for her beautiful family, and most importantly, sharing precious moments with her family, especially her grandchildren who were the light of her life. Patsy was one to alway capture those special moments with her photography.
Patsy is survived by her son, Jeremiah Nelson Smith and his wife Jen of Eden, Wyoming, and her daughter, Felisita Reichard and her husband Tom of Mayflower, Arkansas. She leaves behind her cherished brother, Arden Nelson of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, and is lovingly remembered by her four grandchildren: Jade Snyder, Elisa Snyder, Harlie Smith, and Dani Smith. She is also survived by her dear aunt, Pat Nelson, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, bonus children, and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Daniel Kirk Smith, her parents, Wesley Ardan Nelson and Gloria LaVonne Nelson, her son Sean Eberharter, and several aunts and uncles who held a special place in her heart.
Cremation will take place; a private family service will be conducted at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Patsy’s family respectfully requests that you hold your loved ones tight and appreciate every moment with them, celebrating life and connection just as she did throughout her own life.
