Rock Springs child bitten repeatedly by family pet

ROCK SPRINGS – On Monday, June 10th, 2013, at approximately 1:11 p.m., Rock Springs Animal Control was dispatched to 115 Morning Glory Way, in reference to a dog bite. Officers learned that a one and a half month old infant, had been left unattended on a couch at the residence while the adult at the home went to check on another child. When the parent heard the infant screaming, they went to check on her and found that the family dog had bitten the child repeatedly below the waist. The dog was identified as a seven year old Wheaton Terrier. The child was taken to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County as a result of the attack.

RSPD issues this press release as a warning to pet owners to use due care in monitoring their animals. Police and Animal Control Officers receive a sharp increase in calls during summer months when dogs are allowed to run at large by their owners. This is a serious reminder that pets are unpredictable and need to be properly monitored and/or contained at all times.
Police also remind the public that wild animals tend to wander into the city for water during hotter, dryer months. RSPD has been called to a few residences in recent months for snakes wandering into the edge of town. Everyone is reminded to be aware of the danger and use due caution while enjoying the nice weather.
