Tigers Move to Third as They Prepare for Laramie

ROCK SPRINGS – After an exciting win over Cheyenne East to open the season, the Rock Springs Tigers have moved to third in the WyoPreps.com rankings this week. The rankings are voting on by members of the media and coaches around the state.

The Tigers jumped two spots as Gillette and Sheridan remained on the top of 4A Conference. Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne South moved into the top five while Cheyenne East and Natrona dropped out.

The Tigers hit the road for the first time this season as they head to Laramie for a Friday showdown with the Plainsmen. Second-ranked Sheridan took down Laramie to open the season, 42-13.

The Tigers rushing attack was solid in the opening win as the Rock Springs offensive line led the way to a total of 290 yards on the ground. Matt Fowler finished with 104 yards and two scores while Oaklan Jenkins  ended with 101 on the ground. Defensively, Rock Springs allowed East 148 yards rushing and 111 through the air. The Tiger defense also forced two turnovers on the night.

 

Laramie

The Tiger secondary will have to be ready on Friday as the majority of Laramie’s week one offense came through the air. The Plainsmen finished with 185 yards on 18 attempts against Sheridan. Laramie also rushed for 84 yards against a stingy Bronc defense in the first game. Defensively, Sheridan had a big rushing day against Laramie leaving the gate open for Rock Springs. The Plainsmen gave up 222 yards on the ground and 348 total.

Individually, Quarterback Taylor Dodd led the way on the ground going for 79 yards on 22 carries against Sheridan. Dodd also completed 18 of 25 passes for 185 yards through the air with one touchdown and one interception. Dodd’s favorite receiver was Conor Beeston who finished with 117 yards receiving.
