Tigers Open Classic with Win Over North Summit

ROCK SPRINGS – The Rock Springs Tigers moved to 3-1 on the season as the opened the Flaming Gorge Classic on Thursday with a win over North Summit, 63-47.

After an opening loss to Riverton, the Tigers have won their last three. On Thursday, Rock Springs opened strong but let North Summit back into the game before taking control in the final period. Four quick points by Kelby Kramer had the Tigers out to a quick start. Trevor Hautala added seven including an old-fashion three-point play and Kramer added four more as Rock Springs led after one, 23-6.

The Tigers let up in the second quarter and North Summit came storming back. They outscored the Tigers 18-10 to pull within single digits by the half, 33-24. Hautala finished the half with nine points while Kramer added eight.

North Summit continued to come right at the Tigers out of the break scoring the first six point to pull within three. Kael Mikkelsen kept the Tigers out front and a Hautala three put Rock Springs back up seven. North Summit continued to push and heading into the final quarter had the lead back down to three, 46-43.

After a slow second and third quarters, the Tigers came out in the fourth with the intensity they had to start the game. A three-point play by Kramer had the Tigers off and running to start the fourth. Derek Lionberger added a bucket and Mikkelsen continued to hit as Rock Springs extended the lead back to 11, 55-44. Beltran and Zach Rudelich added solid minutes as the Tigers pulled away late for the win.

Hautala and Kramer both finished with 15 points while Kramer led the way on the board pulling down 16 rebounds on the night.

The Tigers are scheduled to face Bear Lake on Friday at 6 p.m. in Rock Springs. Bear Lake beat Lyman by 11 to open the Flaming Gorge Classic, 54-43.
