PINEDALE — Thanks to the quick reaction of a 16-year-old young man, a climber is alive and well today.
TipTop Search and Rescue was contacted by Fremont County Search and Rescue for assistance in a rescue mission for an injured climber yesterday afternoon.
The 51-year-old male climber from Utah was descending Gooseneck Pinnacle on the Southeast side of Gannett Peak when he fell.
The climber’s son was able to use an InReach device to call for help from the mountain.
When Classic Medical life flight couldn’t reach the injured climber due to the elevation and terrain, TipTop’s short haul team and Sublette County’s contract helicopter came to the rescue.
TipTop Search members were successfully able to secure the injured climber and short-haul him out to the waiting medical life flight aircraft.
The injured climber was flown to Utah for medical treatment.
TipTop Search members then returned to the scene and safely flew the son back to Pinedale where he was reunited with family members and headed home to Utah.
TipTop reports this morning that the injured climber is stable and will be released from the hospital today to the care of family members.
We would like to credit the TipTop Search and Rescue short-haul team, Air Resources pilot Jason Dodds and Fremont County Search and Rescue for the cooperative effort that made this rescue a success.
