ROCK SPRINGS — In a letter to the Rock Springs City Council, two families have once again voiced their concerns about the proposed Estates at Mustang Ridge Subdivision’s water mitigation and drainage plans.

The City Council will meet on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at City Hall to conduct business and review community communication.

Under correspondence, a letter was submitted to the Council from Jesse and Devon Sloan and Luke and Sara Geffre voicing concerns regarding the upcoming Estates at Mustang Ridge Subdivision. The subdivision will be located north of the Sweetwater Drive and Stagecoach Boulevard intersection.

Back in January, the Rock Springs City Council unanimously approved the preliminary plat for the Mustang Ridge Subdivision located along Stagecoach Boulevard.

At that meeting, Luke Geffre approached the Council about his concerns in regards to mitigating the runoff and flood waters coming from the White Mountain before any lands are cleared for the proposed subdivision.

The Subdivision proposal is currently working its way through the Rock Springs Planning and Zoning Commission. The Final Plat approval request for Phase 1 was tabled at Wednesday’s Planning and Zoning meeting until the commission can review the final drainage report. The proposal will then go before the Planning and Zoning Commission on April 13. If approved, it will eventually go before the City Council.

“We believe that our voices have been used plenty regarding the current and future drainage problems at both the City Council and Planning and Zoning meeting, and unfortunately we don’t think they have been heard,” the letter from the Sloans and Geffres states.

While the families appreciate the small retaining wall constructed behind their houses, they do not believe it is a long-term solution.

“This will no way protect our houses from the substantial runoff increase that will result from the buildout of the Estates at Mustang Ridge without adequate stormwater detention improvements in place,” the letter states.

The letter goes on to state legal action may be taken against all parties involved if the drainage issues are not resolved.

Other Business

Under presentations, the Council will listen to an update from Turncorp representatives on the Specific Purpose Tax Initiative.

The Council will also listen to a Joint Powers Combined Communications Center annual report from Tom Jarvie and Rick Hawkins of the Joint Powers Combined Communications Board.
