ROCK SPRINGS – Two parks will be a little brighter this summer as the city of Rock Springs will be upgrading the lighting systems at Veterans Park and Garnet Park.
Two weeks ago, the Rock Springs City Council opened bids to upgrade the current lighting systems at the two parks. There were five bids for each project and this past Tuesday, the council approved contracts with Globe Electric, Inc.
Parks Supervisor Mark Lyon said the lighting systems at the parks are around 30 years old. Instead of just replacing the old lights, the city will move to LED technology. Lyon said not only do they last longer than the regular lights, they are also more cost effective for the city.
The contract for Veterans Park is $37,030 and the contract for Garnet is $31,169.
Other bids
The council opened several bids on Tuesday. They included a vehicle for the Rock Springs Housing Authority, the 2015 crack seal project, Americans with Disabilities upgrades, storm sewer improvements and the College-Stagecoach widening project.
The bids were opened and turned over to staff for review. The council should award most of these bids at its next meeting.
The College Drive – Stagecoach project will be a major project this summer. In October of 2014, the Wyoming State Lands and Investment Board approved financing for the project through the community block grant.
In a previous interview with SweetwaterNOW, the city said this will be phase one of the project. Phase I includes placing a traffic light at Pacific and College, roadway improvements and widening from Arthur Park to Stagecoach, the intersection at Stagecoach and College and where they left off on Stagecoach taking it past the Aspen Medical Center development.
City Engineer Paul Kauchich said they will also be putting conduit in place for a traffic signal at the intersection of College and Stagecoach. While conduit will be put in place, the actual signal will not be part of the first phase of the project.
