ROCK SPRINGS – The ladies of Western Wyoming Community College improved to 9-3 on the season as they defeated a tough Colorado Northwestern for the second time this season, 89-72.
After going 2-0 at the Mustang Invitation this past weekend, the ladies returned to road action on Tuesday. WWCC tipped off against Colorado Northwestern for the second time this season beating CNCC earlier at home, 58-50.
Western started slow as Colorado Northwestern jumped out to a six-point lead after one, 21-15. The slow start was quickly erased as the ladies caught and passed CNCC in a big second quarter. Western outscored Colorado Northwestern 34-18 in the second to take 49-39 lead at the break. Western continued to the pressure in the second half and controlled the rest of the game. In the end, it was a Mustang win, 89-72.
Dora Goles paced the team with 23 points on 10 for 17 shooting on the night. Â She also pulled down eight rebounds. dished out six assists and stole the ball six times.
Irene Garrido Perez finished with 16 points followed by Savannah Hunter with 15. Marlee Machon put in 13 while Julia Hanni rounded out five Mustangs in double figures with 10.
The ladies continue a month on the road with a trip to Riverton this weekend. The Mustangs will play in the CWC Tournament with games against Western Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming on the schedule. The next home game for the ladies is Jan. 12.
