GREEN RIVER – The two rivals battled deep in overtime but Carly Kettering was in the right place at the right time as the Green River Lady Wolves swept both regular season games against the Rock Springs Lady Tigers with the 3-2 win Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers came out firing Tuesday after dropping the first meeting of the season between the two teams, 2-1. Alyssa Bedard and Kristen McCrann combined to put Rock Springs on the board first with 16 minutes left in the first half.

Taylor Stoeger struck back just three minutes later as a long free kick from around 30-yards out found just enough room over the leaping keeper’s hand to even the game. It didn’t take long for Rock Springs to fire back as just two minutes later, a Bedard shot put the Lady Tigers back in front. An exciting end to the first half had the Tigers up 2-1.

In the second half, Rock Springs had several scoring opportunities but keeper Holly Hunt kept them off the board. On the other side, Shyanne Kirkwood, making her first varsity start at goalie for RSHS, was also solid. With under two minutes left, the Lady Wolves were finally able to break through. A loose ball in front of the net found the foot of Kettering who bounced a shot to even the game and send it into overtime.

The two teams were even in the first OT period and it looked as if it was going to end in a tie. With just under three minutes left, it was Kettering again who was able to find a hole in the defense and put the Lady Wolves up for good.

Both Rock Springs and Green River will finish out the regular season on the road in Casper. Green River will battle Natrona on Friday before looking to take down a tough Kelly Walsh team on Saturday. Rock Springs, who just beat conference-leading Kelly Walsh, will open with the Lady Trojans before finishing the weekend against the Fillies.
