ROCK SPRINGS — There’s a new CEO at Aspen Mountain Medical Center.

The hospital announced Tony Swart is its new CEO Wednesday evening. Tiffany Marshall, the medical center’s marketing and community outreach manager, said former CEO Melissa Anderson resigned in April. A previous press release issued by the hospital identified Kelli Yancey as its interim CEO before Swart was hired.

Swart is a native of eastern Oregon and has 19 years of experience in healthcare, starting his career in 2007 as a PRN pharmacy technician. His career has focused on purchasing, process improvement, finance, supply chains, and executive leadership. Prior to joining the medical center, he was the Vice President of Operations and Finance for Saint Alphonsus in eastern Oregon and Administrator of  Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City, Oregon.

As far as how he ended up in Wyoming, Swart credits a friend encouraging him to look at moving to the Cowboy State.

“A friend in Pinedale has been trying to get me to look at roles in Wyoming, which brought me to Aspen,” Swart said.

Swart believes a hospital’s role reaches beyond its walls, saying rural hospitals are anchors for the communities they serve.

“Their success requires leaders who understand that access, quality, workforce stability, community trust, and financial sustainability are inseparable,” he said.

Swart also believes healthcare is a pillar of a healthy community and views Aspen’s specialty hospital and medical clinic as opportunities to think creatively about how services are delivered and how to meet community needs. He also views knowing the community as an important aspect of leadership.

“I value the relationships, creativity, and local knowledge that make rural healthcare distinctive, and I believe leadership in these settings requires visibility, accountability, and a willingness to understand the community personally,” he said.

Swart’s wife Anna is a speech-language pathologist. Tony and Anna have two children, 10-year-old Gwen and 8-year-old Beau.
