LARAMIE — Isabel Vasco’s first collegiate start turned into a record-setting performance, and on Monday the Green River High School graduate was rewarded with Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week honors.

Vasco was one of two University of Wyoming soccer players recognized by the conference after the Cowgirls scored six goals over two matches last week. Alyssa Glover was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week.

Vasco made her first career start Sunday against South Dakota and scored twice and added an assist in Wyoming’s 5-2 victory. Her performance helped the Cowgirls improve to 3-2-0 on the season.

Vasco scored the game’s opening goal in the fourth minute for the first goal of her collegiate career. She added another in the 63rd minute after receiving a pass from Maddie Burr, then assisted Glover on her second goal of the match two minutes earlier.

The performance also made history, as Vasco and Glover became the first Wyoming teammates to each record multiple goals in the same match.

Vasco had already made an impact earlier in the week against South Carolina, assisting Glover on Wyoming’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss. It was her second career assist.

The honor adds to what was already a decorated soccer career for Vasco at Green River. She was named the 2025-26 Gatorade Wyoming Girls Soccer Player of the Year after scoring 54 goals and recording 10 assists as a senior. She finished her high school career with 228 goals, becoming Wyoming’s all-time leading goal scorer, and was a three-time first-team all-state selection.

Glover also had a productive week, scoring three goals. She scored against South Carolina, marking the third consecutive time she has scored against a Power Five opponent, before recording two goals against South Dakota.

Glover now has 22 career goals, which ranks third in Wyoming program history. Her 56 career points also rank third all time.

Wyoming begins a five-week road stretch Thursday at Gonzaga before traveling to Eastern Washington on Sunday.
